Transition and Learning: From Chiang Mai to Da Nang
I’ve recently made a move from Chiang Mai to Da Nang, Vietnam, a decision prompted by the seasonal burning in Chiang Mai. This relocation is not just about finding a new backdrop for my life; it’s also about continuing my journey into the IT field with fresh focus and determination.
Progress in IT Studies
After completing a course in Linux, which deepened my understanding of open-source operating systems, I’ve now turned my attention to Microsoft Server Technologies. My current study focuses on Active Directory, a cornerstone of IT administration. While this new subject is fascinating, I’ve found that my interests still strongly lean towards the areas covered in my previous Cisco networking and Linux courses. There’s something about the tangible, hands-on problem-solving in those fields that particularly appeals to me.
Advancing My Networking Knowledge
Not content with standing still, I’ve enrolled in CCNA2 to push my networking skills even further. This step up in Cisco’s certification ladder is an exciting challenge, promising to expand my expertise and open new doors in the tech world.
Remote Work: Da Nang vs. Chiang Mai
Da Nang has been a great place to work remotely, offering a vibrant setting and a change of pace. However, for remote work, Chiang Mai still holds the top spot in my heart, thanks to its unparalleled digital nomad community and the lifestyle it supports.
The Road Back to Norway
With only two weeks left before returning to Norway to reopen our family restaurant, I’m gearing up for a busy period. Juggling Noroff studies, CCNA2 coursework, and the restaurant’s demands will be challenging. The transition from student and digital nomad back to restaurant management will be a significant shift.
Balancing Act
The upcoming months will test my ability to balance the demands of continued learning in IT with the responsibilities of managing a busy restaurant. I’m optimistic and ready for the challenge, drawing on the resilience and adaptability I’ve developed over my time abroad.
I welcome any advice or insights from those who have navigated similar paths, and I look forward to sharing my progress. Here’s to a future where I can successfully merge my passion for IT with my career in hospitality.
