Trying out the Digital Nomad Lifestyle in Chiang Mai With our family restaurant closed for winter, I spent two months in Chiang Mai, Thailand, working remotely and joining a vibrant coworking community. The experience gave me fresh insights into both tech and the digital nomad lifestyle.

Trying out the Digital Nomad Lifestyle in Chiang Mai

At the start of the year, I had an unusual opportunity. Our family restaurant in Norway closes every January, and this time we decided to extend the break through February. That gave me two full months free — the perfect chance to try working as a digital nomad.

Chiang Mai, Thailand, was an easy choice. It’s well-known for its affordable cost of living, great food, and a large, welcoming community of remote workers from all over the world.

Settling In

I found an apartment that was comfortable and close to everything I needed. More importantly, I joined Yellow Coworking — a space that’s much more than just desks and Wi-Fi. It’s a place where people connect, share ideas, and swap experiences.

Learning from the Community

Yellow Coworking turned out to be one of the best parts of the trip. I met people from many fields, including several working in cybersecurity. Their advice and insights have been helpful for my studies and for understanding the many paths available in IT.

Life in Chiang Mai

What makes Chiang Mai special isn’t just the weather or the food — it’s the people. The digital nomad community is active and supportive, with plenty of events, meetups, and casual conversations that can lead to new ideas or collaborations.

Would I Recommend It?

Absolutely. If you’re looking to try working remotely from another country, Chiang Mai should be high on your list. It’s affordable, inspiring, and full of opportunities to learn and connect.

For me, these two months have been both productive and motivating — a reminder that with the right setup, you can combine travel and work in a way that benefits both.
