Launching VITOfilter.no

After years of selling VITO machines without a proper webshop, VITOfilter.no is finally live. What started as “we should really do this soon” turned into my first full webshop project — connecting hospitality, business, and IT studies in a practical way.

Back in our restaurant, frying oil was always one of the big costs. We were going through a lot of it, and started looking for a solution to make it last longer. That’s when we came across VITO, a German company that makes oil filtration systems for professional kitchens. The machines filter the oil during service, which improves quality and cuts down on usage — saving money and reducing waste.

At first, we just wanted a machine for ourselves. But when we couldn’t find a distributor in Norway, we contacted VITO in Germany directly. They told us they were looking for a new agent for the Norwegian market, and before long we were on our way to Tuttlingen to meet the team, sign the contract, and get training. That was back in 2016.

Since then, we’ve sold machines here and there, and even done a few trade shows. But the truth is, we never put enough time into building the project properly. We had a website and some social media accounts, but not a real webshop where customers could learn about the machines and order directly.

Fast-forward to now, and that gap is finally filled. After years of saying “we should really do this soon”, I sat down and built VITOfilter.no.

The process turned out to be a mix of fun, frustration, and learning. The VITO color scheme (black and yellow) caused more than a few headaches with graphics, product listings, and shopping carts. I spent plenty of time figuring out DNS, SSL, SEO, and responsive design. It reminded me that building something for the web isn’t just about getting it to work — it also has to look right, run smoothly, and be user-friendly on mobile, tablet, and desktop.

Like most projects, the webshop will probably never be completely “finished.” There will always be design tweaks, new features, and things to improve. But that’s part of the point — it’s a living project that grows with me, as I keep learning more about IT and how to apply it in real life.
